A Message for

The 2753^rdKaren New Year

Myanmar calendar:     1^st day of Pyatho, year 1375

Christian calendar:      1^st day of January, year 2014

Karen calendar:           1^st day of Thalay Htike Khao Poe, year 2753

May this day be auspicious and glorious!

On the Karen New Year Day which falls on the 1^st day of Thalay Htike Khao Poe month, in Karen calendar year 2753, I am delighted to greet:  

1)      the Karen people in Myanmar, and

2)      the Karen people worldwide.

 May you all have both physical and mental wellness and peace.

We, the Karen people, have the following characteristics:

1.      a clear geographical border ;

2.      only one language ,which is different from the Burman language;

3.      only one culture;

4.      only one tradition;

5.      an ethnicity having  economic benefit  and economic sufficiency ;

6.      a large population in Myanmar and also overseas; and

7.      the desire to live in self-determination as a member state of the Union of Myanmar

We, the Karen people, have adhered to these seven characteristics since 23^rd May 1947.  Historically prominent, the Thanlwin region (now Kayin State) has been a free sovereign state for all the Karen people since 4^th January 1948 when Myanmar was declared as an independent country.  

            Along with our other brethren ethnic groups, we Karen are a people who have risked our lives in an effort to build our Federal Union Country.  In history, we have involved in:

1.      the anti-colonial movements,  

2.      the national freedom movements, and

3.      the independence movement of  Myanmar.

There is historical evidence that our Karen people have involved themselves in various political activities, such as early Myanmar politics, Myanmar politics in the colonial era, the anti-Fascist revolution, and today's democratic politics. Being a nation with historical importance, the Karen people are recognized in the Union constitution as a member ethnic group of the Union of Myanmar.

Today is the day when we try to promote the unity and cooperation of the entire Karen nation. Today is an important day that all Karen people admire, value and feel proud of. This significant day must be always upheld as the Karen National Day. As Karen, we are each responsible for continuously maintaining and honoring the Karen New Year Day or Karen National Day.

In the present time, with a large respect to the country's federal system, the entire Karen people must be united in their

1.      national affairs,

2.      social activities,

3.      economic  activities,

4.      health  and

5.      sustainable development.

Along with the other brethren ethnic groups, we must strive, and even risk our lives, to implement the federal system in Myanmar. We must respect the national goal which is "the Federal System".

In conclusion, may the Karen people be able to enact the Federal Union system Law, in which self-determination for the entire Karen people is guaranteed, and may we always be able to preserve our culture, customs and traditions!

 May all the Karen people be united and resilient on this Karen New Year Day!

ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသား ခုႏွစ္ ၂၇၅၃ ခုနွစ္၊ သေလထိုင္ေခါက္ဖိုးလတြင္ က်ေရာက္လ်က္ ရွိေသာ "ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသား ႏွစ္သစ္ကူးေန႔" အခါသမယ၌

(၁) ျမန္မာျပည္တြင္း ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားအေပါင္းႏွင့္

(၂) ႏိုင္ငံတကာရွိ ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားအေပါင္းအား ကုိယ္စိတ္ႏွစ္ျဖာ က်န္းမာခ်မ္းသာ နုိင္ႀကပါေစရန္ ပဏာမ ႏွႈတ္ခြန္းဆက္သပါသည္။

အကြ်ႏု္ပ္တို ့ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားမ်ားသည္

၁။ ပထ၀ီအေနအထားအရ နယ္နိမိတ္ အထင္အရွား ရွိုျခင္း

၂။ ျမန္မာစကားႏွင့္မတူေသာ ဘာသာစကား တစ္မ်ိဳးတည္း ရွိျခင္း

၃။ ယဥ္ေက်းမႈ တစ္မ်ိဳးတည္း ရွိျခင္း

၄။ ရာဇ၀င္အစဥ္အလာ တစ္မ်ိဳးတည္း ရွိေသာ လူမ်ိဳးစု ရွိျခင္း

၅။ စီးပြားေရးဆုိင္ရာ အက်ိဳးေက်းဇူး ႏွင့္ စီးပြားေရးလံုေလာက္မႈတို႔ ရွိေသာ လူမ်ိဳးစု ရွိျခင္း

၆။ ျမန္မာျပည္ႏွင့္ နုိင္ငံတကာတို႔တြင္ လူဦးေရ မ်ားျပားစြာ ရွိျခင္း

၇။ ျပည္ေထာင္စု၀င္ ျပည္နယ္ေဒသတစ္ခုအျဖစ္ျဖင့္ မိမိတုိ႔ကိုယ္ပုိင္ျပ႒ာန္းခ်က္ျဖင့္ ေနလိုေသာ  ဆႏၵရွိျခင္း ဟူေသာ အဂၤါရပ္ (၇) ခ်က္ျဖင့္ ၁၉၄၇ ခုႏွစ္၊ ေမလ ၂၃ ရက္ေန႔တြင္ အတည္ျပဳျပဌာန္းခဲ့သည့္အတုိင္း ၊ ၁၉၄၈ ခုႏွစ္၊ ဇန္န၀ါရီလ (၄) ရက္ (လြတ္လပ္ေရးေန႔)၊ ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံေတာ္ကုိ လြတ္လပ္ေသာႏိုင္ငံအျဖစ္ ေႀကညာသည့္ အခ်ိန္မွ စ၍ ကရင္တစ္မ်ိဳးသားလံုးအတြက္ ေရွးေခတ္ သံလြင္ခရုိင္ ယခု ကရင္ျပည္နယ္ကို လြတ္လပ္ေသာ အခ်ဳပ္အျခာအာဏာပိုင္ေသာ ျပည္နယ္တစ္ခု ျဖစ္ခဲ့ေႀကာင္း သမိုင္း၌ အထင္အရွား ရွိသည္။

အကြ်နု္ပ္တုိ ့ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားမ်ားသည္ ျမန္မာျပည္တြင္

(၁) နယ္ခ်ဲ႕ဆန္႔က်င္ေရး လႈပ္ရွားမႈမ်ား၊

(၂) အမ်ိဳးသားလြတ္ေျမာက္ေရး လႈပ္ရွားမႈမ်ား၊

(၃)တမ်ိဳးသားလံုးလြတ္ေျမာက္ေရး လြတ္လပ္ေရးလႈပ္ရွားမႈမ်ား သမိုင္းတြင္ အျခားေသာ ညီေနာင္ တိုင္းရင္းသားတုိ႔ႏွင့္အတူ ျပည္ေထာင္စုတုိင္းျပည္ ထူေထာင္ေရးအတြက္ သက္စြန္႕ႀကိဳးပမ္းအားထုတ္ၾကေသာ တုိင္းရင္းသား လူမ်ိဳးမ်ား ျဖစ္သည္။

            ေခတ္ဦး ျမန္မာျပည္နုိင္ငံေရး၊ ကိုလိုနီေခတ္ ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံေရး၊ ဖက္ဆစ္ေတာ္လွန္ေရးႏွင့္ ယခုေခတ္၌ဒီမုိကေရစီႏိုင္ငံေရးရာ စေသာ ႏိုင္ငံေရးရာ အျဖာျဖာတို႔တြင္ မိမိတို႔ ကရင္လူမ်ိဳးမ်ား ပါ၀င္လႈပ္ရွားေသာ သမိုင္းသည္ သာဓကအထင္အရွား ရွိခဲ့သည္။ သမိုင္းအရာ၌အထင္အရွားရွိေသာ လူမ်ိဳးျဖစ္သည္ေႀကာင့္ ဤျမန္မာျပည္ကို ျပည္ေထာင္စုအဖြဲ႔၀င္လူမ်ိဳးမ်ား ျဖစ္ေႀကာင္း ျပည္ေထာင္စုဖြဲ႔စည္းပံုအေျခခံဥပေဒျပဳရာ၌ တည္ရွိေသာ လူမ်ိဳး ျဖစ္သည္။

            ယေန႔တြင္ ကရင္တမ်ိဳးသားလံုးတို႔၏ စည္းလံုးေရး၊ ညီညြတ္ေရး၊ အတူေဆာင္ရြက္ေရးတုိ႔ကုိ ရည္ညႊန္း ညႊန္ၾကားျပဳေသာ  ကရင္လူမ်ိဳးလမ္းညႊန္ေန႔တစ္ေန႔ ျဖစ္သည္။ ဤေန႔ကို မည္သည့္ ကရင္တုိင္းရင္းသားလူမ်ိဳး၌ မဆို ေလးစားတန္ဖိုး ဂုဏ္ယူေသာ ေန႔ထူးေန႔ျမတ္ ျဖစ္သည္။ ဤေန႔ထူးေန႔ျမတ္ကို ကရင္တစ္မ်ိဳးသား၌ "ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားေန႔" ကဲ့သုိ႔ အစဥ္တစိုက္ ဦးတည္ၾကရမည္။ "ကရင္ႏွစ္သစ္ကူးေန႔" သို႔မဟုတ္ "ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားေန႔" တည္တံ့ခိုင္ၿမဲေစရန္ ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားမ်ား အထူးတာ၀န္ရွိၾကသည္။

            ယေန႔ ပစၥဳပၸန္ကာလ၌ ကရင္တမ်ိဳးသားလံုးအတြက္

                        ၁။ အမ်ိဳးသားေရး

                        ၂။ လူမႈေရး

                        ၃။ စီးပြားေရး

                        ၄။ က်န္းမာေရး

၅။ ဖြံ႕ျဖိဳးတုိးတက္ေရးအတြက္ကိုညီညြတ္စည္းလံုးစြာ ေဆာင္ရြက္ၾကျပီး၊ အမ်ိဳးသားေရးပန္းတုိင္ ျဖစ္ေသာ "ဖက္ဒရယ္ျပည္ေထာင္စု" စနစ္အား ဦးညြတ္အေလးထားၾကရမည္။ တုိင္းရင္းသားထု မျပိဳကြဲေရးကုိ ေရွ႕ရႈျပီး ညီေနာင္တုိင္းရင္းသားမ်ားႏွင့္အတူ သက္စြန္႔ ႀကိဳးပမ္း အားထုတ္ၾကရမည္။          

            နိဂံုးလႊာအေနျဖင့္ ကရင္တစ္မ်ိဳးသားလံုး၏ ကုိယ္ပုိင္ျပ႒ာန္းနိုင္ခြင့္ရွိေသာ ျပည္ေထာင္စုစနစ္ဥပေဒ ေပၚေပါက္ေရးႏွင့္ တစ္မ်ိဳးသားလံုး ရိုးရာ၊ ယဥ္ေက်းမႈ၊ ဓေလ့ တည္တံ့ခုိင္ျမဲေရး တုိ႔ကို အားသြန္ႀကိဳးပမ္း ေဆာင္ရြက္ ႏုိင္ၾကၿပီး ဤႏွစ္သစ္ကူးေန႔တြင္ ကရင္အမ်ိဳးသားျပည္သူအေပါင္းအား စည္းလံုး ၊ ၾကံ႕ခုိင္၊ ညီညြတ္ၾက ေစသတည္း။
